Attention all fisherpersons! The 2015 Oakbrook Campout Fishing Derby will commence on Friday and conclude at 5PM Sunday. The winner will be announced right after the prizes for the Campfire Cook-off are announced and will receive a wooden plaque.
Only children under the age of 14 can enter (but see “new feature” below.) Fish must be measured by an adult to the nearest 1/4 inch and reported to Preston Junkin. (Don’t bring me the fish – throw it back and catch it again next year!)
Adult supervision is strongly advised. (In addition to the safety factor, it’s a great parent-child activity, plus it means they don’t have to bring a dead fish to your camp site to be measured!)
NEW FEATURE: Adult fishers and young folks 14 and older – please report your biggest fish to Preston as well. You won’t get a plaque, but the biggest reported catch will be announced, giving you bragging rights for the next year!
Don’t forget:
1. Something to measure your fish with!!! (Like a tape measure.)
2. Adult fisherpersons need a license, which can be obtained at:
(Virginia residents can purchase a 3 day pass for $21. Can’t complain – that’s what Virginia charges non-Virginians)
3. Fishing equipment! KMart and Walmart have everything you need.
4. Hats and sunblock. (Note: the fish usually bite best at twilight.)
The snack bar by the lake USUALLY (but not always) has some live bait.
