VMware VCSA Connection Control Operation Failed for disk “ide0:0”

When attaching an .iso from a data store to VCSA appliance CD/DVD, VM become unresponsive for certain period of time.

Error: Connection Control Operation Failed for disk “ide0:0”

Solution:

  1. Make sure you are logged into the host where VCSA appliance is residing  via web browser first. Lockdown Mode needs to be Disabled to allow login to VM host using root. Host->Security Profile->Lockdown Mode – Disabled.
  2. Go to appliance VM edit settings ->CD DVD drive and browse the data store where the new patch .iso is located.
  3. A  Answer question dialog box will appear, select “Yes” and choose “Answer”
  4. Log in to vSphere web client, select the VCSA appliance VM and make sure to check  CD DVD “connected” option
