I have been battling Windows Server 2012 R2 disk space usage above threshold despite adding space to it. Within couple of days, it would add up 5 to 6 GB. I ran PowerShell script to find out the folder size every other day and compared but was not successful.
I used TreeSize and immediately it showed what folder was using up space. System Volume Information folder was the culprit. Don’t forget to run TreeSize as an administrator. Although, shadow copies was disabled under settings “Maximum Size” was set to “No Limit”. I adjusted and ‘Use Limit” to 2GB. Immediately I had 100GB space freed up.
Go to Computer Management->Shared Folders->Right Click->All Tasks->Configure Shadow Copies->Choose C:\-> Settings
